Burnley manager Sean Dyche ready to make keeper decision
Burnley manager Sean Dyche says he is comfortable with having three goalkeepers fighting for a first team spot.
Nick Pope is due to start in the FA Cup fourth round game against Manchester City at the weekend, after starting and keeping a clean sheet in the third round victory against Barnsley.
That was his first appearance since dislocating a shoulder in Burnley’s Europa League qualifier against Aberdeen back in July after featuring for the whole of last season and impressing so much that he was part of England’s squad at the summer World Cup.
With Tom Heaton recovering from a long term absence himself, Dyche turned to sign Joe Hart from City and he was an ever present in the first half of the season.
However, a few recent errors have seen him dropped to the bench in favour of Heaton, who has started the last four Premier League game which Burnley are unbeaten in.
And if Pope comes through the City test unscathed, it means the Clarets will have three senior England internationals to choose from in goal, but Dyche says he is happy to have that selection headache.
“You have to make a decision, that’s my job. I’ll have to make more as we go forward,” he said.
“But you can’t have too many good players. “The dream for every manager is to have a lot of top players. Manchester City’s top is different to ours, but I think we’ve got some very good players at this club.”
Burnley are heavy underdogs for the trip to City at 29.00 with the home side priced at 1.08 and a draw 10.00.Article written by Aaron Welch
