Djokovic creates history with Cincinnati Masters victory
Novak Djokovic became the first player to win all nine Masters 1,000 tournament has he claimed victory over Roger Federer during the Cincinnati Masters last weekend. The former world number one recorded a win with a score of 6-4 and 6-4 against the seven-time champion.
Djokovic previously lost to Federer in the same tournament on three previous occasions. With this victory, the Serbian ace expressed his delight in winning his first trophy at this tournament. It was not an easy tournament for Djokovic though as he started pressuring Federer since the start and managed to break the Swiss’ serve for 4-3 before winning the 1st set.
Federer fought back during the second set to lead by 2-0; Djokovic however managed to level it at 2-2. With a decisive break at 4-3, Djokovic powered on to serve for the win, completing the finals in one hour and 24 minutes to claim his career ‘Golden Masters. On the other hand, if Federer wins the tournament, the Swiss would be able to record his career trophy to 99!
